Fundamentals of Legislation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

This is my flesh and my blood, tempered in the furnace of the Revolution. This is the foundation, on which stand fifteen fraternal republics, united in an indestructible unity. From the Baltic to the Pacific Ocean, from the eternal ice to the sunny gardens – one Law! The Law of Labor, the Law of Equality, the Law of Socialism!
Do you see them? These Fundamentals are not merely rules, but the Manifesto of the Liberated Human Being! They proclaim:

Power – to the people! The dictatorship of the proletariat, expressed in the Soviets – that is the indestructible stronghold guarding the gains of October.

Labor is the foundation of everything! He who does not work, neither shall he eat! The right to work, to rest, to a secure old age – are not empty words, but an iron guarantee. The eight-hour day, labor protection, social insurance – this is a reality forged by us.

The land – to those who till it! The factories – to those at the machine! Private ownership of the instruments and means of production – abolished! All the wealth of the country – the common property of the people!

Equality is not a dream, but the norm! Equal rights for all – men and women, people of any nationality and race. The age-old injustice has been destroyed! Science, culture, education – a beacon for all, and not a privilege of the chosen few. The likbez, the rabfaks, free education – these are our instruments for creating the new human being!

The brotherhood of peoples is indestructible! Each republic is sovereign, but their will is one in the great Union. National policy is the key to our might! The development of languages and cultures is under the protection of the Law of the Union.

Defense of the Fatherland is a sacred duty! The might of the Red Army and Navy is the guarantor of peace and of our socialist gains. Every citizen is a fighter on guard for the Motherland.
The Fundamentals of Legislation of the Union of SSR are not frozen stone. This is the a dynamic system, developing together with us, with our movement toward the bright summits of Communism. They regulate everything: from the great construction projects of the Dneproges to the collective farm charter, from Constitutional rights to the family code.
This is the truth of our life, hard-won and conquered. This is the shield of the working people from exploitation and bondage. This is the compass, pointing the way forward, toward a society where man is a friend, comrade and brother to man.
Read them! Study them! Live by them! For in these Fundamentals lies the strength of our Union, the wisdom of our Party, and the unshakeable will of the millions who, under the sun of socialism, are building the most just society on Earth!
