As a rule, a larger garrison includes all military units, military educational institutions and establishments located in the populated areas nearest to it.
2. In each garrison, garrison service and guard service are organized.
Garrison service has the purpose of ensuring the maintenance of high military discipline among the personnel of the garrison, the necessary conditions for the daily life and training of the troops, and the conduct of garrison measures with the participation of the troops.
Guard service is intended for the reliable protection and defense of combat banners, storage facilities with armament, combat and other equipment, ammunition, explosives, other property and other military and state facilities, as well as for the guarding of arrested and convicted persons held in the guardhouse and in the disciplinary battalion.
3. The boundaries of the territory within which garrison service is organized are determined by order of the commander of the troops of the military district. These boundaries may include, in addition to the points in which the troops are located, certain nearby populated areas that are of importance for the economic and cultural services of the military units of the garrison.
The boundaries of the garrison must be well known to all the personnel of the garrison.
4. The direction of garrison and guard services within a military district is exercised by the commander of the troops of the military district, and within a garrison by the garrison commander.

Commanders of the troops of military districts and all direct superiors are obliged to systematically check the state of garrison and guard services in subordinate troops, and also to conduct, together with the garrison commanders and military commandants, measures aimed at the fullest improvement of military discipline and order in the garrisons.
The orders of the commander of the troops of the military district (garrison commander) concerning these services must be precisely carried out by military units, military educational institutions, establishments, teams and individual servicemen of the Armed Forces of the USSR located within the given military district (within the boundaries of the garrison).

7. All provisions of this Regulation concerning the rights and duties of the commander of the troops of a military district in the direction of garrison and guard services apply equally to the commander-in-chief (commander) of a group of troops, the commander of a fleet (flotilla) and the commander of the troops of a front (commander of a separate army).
8. When troops are located in training centers and camps, measures to maintain military discipline and to guard the facilities of the training centers and common camp facilities are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Internal Service Regulation of the Armed Forces of the USSR and of this Regulation.

Servicemen who have arrived on leave passes from another garrison are also detained and sent to the military commandant's office. The head of the patrol makes a note on the serviceman's leave pass about the time and reason for the detention.
In the event of insubordination or resistance by a serviceman during his detention, the head of the patrol has the right to use force against him.
Cold steel and firearms and ammunition, as well as identity documents, are confiscated from detained servicemen, and are handed over by the head of the patrol to the military commandant of the garrison or his assistant (the duty officer for the guards).
80. In the event of a violation of military discipline by a serviceman senior in military rank, the head of the patrol addresses him with a request to stop the violation of discipline. If this request is not complied with, the head of the patrol is obliged to report this immediately to the military commandant of the garrison or his assistant (the duty officer for the guards) and to act according to their instructions.
81. The use of weapons is an extreme measure and is permitted only in exceptional cases that tolerate no delay, when all other measures taken have proved unsuccessful or when, under the conditions of the situation, the adoption of other measures proves impossible.
The patrol chief has the right to personally use weapons or to order the patrolmen to use weapons only under the following circumstances:
- when defending military personnel, and if necessary also civilians, from an attack threatening their lives, if they cannot be protected otherwise;
- to repel an attack on the patrol, when the life of the patrol chief or the patrolmen is in immediate danger;
- when apprehending a criminal offering armed resistance;
- when apprehending a criminal escaping from custody, when it is impossible to apprehend him by other means.
Before using weapons, if the situation permits, the patrol chief is obliged to warn the person against whom the weapons are to be used, by voice or by a shot into the air. The patrol chief shall immediately report the use of weapons to the military commandant of the garrison or his assistant (the duty officer for the guards).
The patrol personnel are in all cases strictly forbidden to use firearms on crowded streets, squares and in public places, when bystanders may be harmed by this.
No member of the patrol has the right to threaten with weapons or fire warning shots for the purpose of maintaining order, except in the cases provided for by this Regulation.
82. Military personnel delivered to the military commandant's office of the garrison for violations of military discipline and public order are received by the assistant of the military commandant (the duty officer for the guards), recorded in the register of detainees (Appendix 13) and placed in temporary detention cells for a period of up to one day, until a decision is made on them by the military commandant of the garrison.
83. When receiving detained military personnel, the assistant of the military commandant (the duty officer for the guards) conducts a personal search, confiscates waist belts, items and valuables that are not permitted to be kept in the cell, as well as all service documents. A protocol is drawn up on the confiscation of weapons and ammunition, documents, items and valuables, which is signed by the assistant of the military commandant (the duty officer for the guards), the persons who delivered the detainee, and the detainee himself.
Military personnel delivered to the military commandant's office of the garrison in a state of intoxication sign the protocol after sobering up.
84. Military personnel held in temporary detention cells are guarded by guards at garrison guardhouses. If the garrison guardhouse is located at a considerable distance from the military commandant's office of the garrison, the detained military personnel may be guarded by specially assigned armed patrolmen, who perform their service in accordance with Article 185 of this Regulation.
85. Upon completion of service by the patrol, the order with the necessary marks of the military commandant of the garrison is returned to the patrol chief for transmission to the headquarters of the military unit.
Chapter 4
DUTY SUBUNIT OF THE GARRISON
86. The duty subunit of the garrison is assigned by order of the garrison chief in case of reinforcement of garrison guards or urgent call-up in the event of a fire, natural disaster and other incidents in the garrison.
In large garrisons, several duty subunits of the garrison may be assigned.
87. The duty subunit is assigned for each day, as a rule, from the military unit from which the garrison guards have been assigned, and is subordinate to the garrison chief, the military commandant of the garrison and the duty officer for the guards.
The order on the assignment of the duty subunit of the garrison shall state its composition, armament, ammunition, uniform and vehicles.
88. The duty subunit is called out by the garrison chief, the military commandant of the garrison or, with their permission, by the duty officer for the guards.
When calling out the duty subunit, it shall be indicated where, by what time and into whose disposal it must arrive, and the quantity and procedure for issuing ammunition shall also be indicated.
Ammunition is issued to the duty subunit by order of the commander (chief of staff) of the military unit or the duty officer of the unit.
Simultaneously with the call-up of the duty subunit, by order of the garrison chief, if necessary, a new duty subunit is assigned.
89. The commander of the military unit is responsible for the constant readiness of the duty subunit, as well as for its timely departure to the place of destination.
90. The duty subunit conducts training near the location of its military unit. The location of the duty subunit must be precisely known to the duty officer of the military unit and the duty officer for the guards.
91. Upon arrival at the place of destination, the duty subunit acts on the instructions of the military commandant of the garrison, the duty officer for the guards or the person into whose disposal it has been assigned.
Chapter 5
PASSWORD
92. A password is a secret word which serves as a means for the guard chief to verify that the guard that has arrived to relieve him has indeed been assigned for that purpose.
In addition, the password serves as a means of verifying that the person who has arrived with an order from the garrison chief (commander of the military unit), the military commandant of the garrison or the duty officer for the guards (of the military unit) is indeed authorized to do so by the corresponding chief.
93. The password is designated by the name of some city of the USSR and is established for each day: for garrison guards - by the military commandant of the garrison, for internal guards - by the chief of staff of the military unit. A separate password is established for each guard.
94. Passwords are established for no more than 10 days in advance and are entered in the password book, which is kept by the military commandant of the garrison (chief of staff of the military unit) in a sealed folder in a safe.
95. Notes with the new and old passwords are handed to the newly appointed duty officer for the guards (of the military unit) by the military commandant of the garrison (chief of staff of the military unit) or his assistant at the appointed time before the changing of the guards.
The duty officer for the guards (of the military unit) signs for the receipt of the passwords in the password issue journal and familiarizes his assistant with them (the assistant of the duty officer of the military unit, if the guard is subordinate to him).
In the same manner, the password is handed to persons sent by the garrison chief (commander of the military unit), the military commandant of the garrison or the duty officer for the guards (of the military unit) with an order to the guard chief.
96. All persons who know the password are obliged to keep it in the strictest secrecy. When questioning, the password is communicated by note, without being spoken aloud, after which the note is immediately burned.
If the note with the password is lost or in other cases of disclosure of the password, its validity is immediately terminated by the chief of the guard or the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit), of which the military commandant of the garrison (chief of staff of the military unit) is immediately notified. The new password is personally handed by the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit) or his assistant to the chief of the guard in the guardroom.
PART TWO
ORGANIZATION AND PERFORMANCE OF GUARD DUTY
Chapter 6
GENERAL PROVISIONS
97. The performance of guard duty is the execution of a combat task and requires of the personnel strict observance of all the provisions of this Regulation, high vigilance, inflexible determination and initiative.
Those guilty of violating the requirements of guard duty bear disciplinary or criminal liability.
98. Guards are detailed for the performance of guard duty.
A guard is an armed subunit detailed for the execution of a combat task for the protection and defense of combat banners, military and state facilities, as well as for the protection of persons held in the guardhouse and in the disciplinary battalion.
It is prohibited to assign to a guard servicemen who have not taken the military oath, who have not mastered the young soldier training program, who have committed offenses under investigation, who are ill, as well as for the serving of a disciplinary punishment.
99. Guards may be garrison (camp) and internal (ship); both may be permanent or temporary.
A garrison (camp) guard is detailed for the protection and defense of facilities of army, district or central subordination that do not have their own guard subunits, of facilities of general garrison (general camp) significance, of facilities of a formation or of several military units located in immediate proximity to one another, as well as for the protection of persons held in the garrison guardhouse.
An internal (ship) guard is detailed for the protection and defense of facilities of one military unit (on a ship).
Permanent guards are provided for by the guard schedule. Temporary guards are not included in the guard schedule; they are detailed by order of the garrison chief (camp assembly chief) or the commander of the military unit (ship) for the protection and defense of military property during its loading (unloading) at a railway station (in a port, airport) or temporary storage in other places, in the event of a fire or natural disaster, for the protection and escort of special cargo transported by various means of transport, as well as for the protection and convoying of arrested and convicted persons.
100. Garrison (camp) guards are subordinate to the garrison chief (camp assembly chief), the military commandant of the garrison, the duty officer for the guards (for the camp assembly) and his assistant; the guard at the garrison (general camp) guardhouse is, in addition, subordinate to the chief of the guardhouse.
Internal (ship) guards are subordinate to the commander of the military unit (commander of the ship), the duty officer for the unit (for the ship) and his assistant, if the assistant of the duty officer for the military unit is an officer. The assistant of the duty officer for the military unit appointed from among warrant officers is subordinate to guards whose chiefs are not officers, and the assistant of the duty officer for the military unit appointed from among sergeants is subordinate to those guards whose chiefs are appointed from among sergeants.
Guards pass into the subordination of these persons from the moment the command "At attention" is given during the changing of the guard for the meeting of the duty officer for the guards (for the camp assembly, for the military unit, ship).
The exit of the guard from subordination to the indicated persons is determined by the moment the chief of the guard gives it the command "Forward - march" for proceeding to its military unit (subunit) after being relieved.
101. The following are assigned to the composition of a guard: the chief of the guard, sentries in the number of posts and shifts, the reliefs, and, if necessary, the assistant of the chief of the guard and drivers of transport vehicles.
In the guard at the guardhouse, in addition to the listed persons, escorts from among soldiers (sailors) are assigned.
102. For the direct protection and defense of facilities, sentries are posted from the composition of the guard.
A sentry is an armed guard performing a combat task for the protection and defense of the post entrusted to him.
A post is everything entrusted for protection and defense to a sentry, as well as the place or sector of terrain on which he performs his duties.
Sentries carry out the protection of facilities by the method of patrolling between the outer and inner fences around the facility or along the fence on the inner side, if the facility has one fence, by going around the guarded warehouses, storage facilities, etc., that do not have a fence, as well as by observation from towers. Individual facilities may be guarded by stationary sentries.
103. Garrison chiefs, commanders of formations and military units, chiefs of military facilities, as well as all their direct superiors are obliged to constantly strive to reduce the number of personnel necessary for the protection and defense of facilities. This is achieved:
- by combining under the protection of one guard all nearby storage facilities, warehouses, parks and other guarded facilities belonging to different military units;
- by a common fence of these facilities with the use of technical means of protection and signaling, observation towers, as well as the use of guard dogs;
- by reducing the number of posts with stationary sentries and organizing the protection of facilities by the method of patrolling on foot and in transport vehicles.
104. When organizing the protection of facilities by the method of patrolling, the sentry, depending on the fence of the facility and the conditions of the terrain, is assigned for protection and defense during the indicated time a sector of a strip with a length of: up to 2 km in the daytime, up to 1 km at night. To reinforce the protection of facilities in inclement weather (heavy fog, rain, snowfall), by order of the garrison chief (commander of the military unit), additional guards or patrols in transport vehicles may be detailed. The procedure for the performance of service by additional guards and patrolling in this case is determined by the garrison chief (commander of the military unit).
Sentries move along the routes of movement on foot at a speed ensuring reliable protection of the facility, making short stops to inspect the terrain and fences, as well as to report by means of communication to the chief of the guard on the performance of service or to give the established signal when passing signaling points. In winter time they may move on skis.
In good visibility, if the terrain conditions permit, sentries may observe the guarded facility and the approaches to it from specially equipped towers.
105. To assist the sentries, in each guardroom reserve groups are created from among the awake and resting shifts of guards, which, on the combat alert signal, under the command of the chief of the guard, his assistant or the relief commander, arrive at the place of the violation and act depending on the situation. For the rapid delivery of these groups to the place of the violation, the guards are provided with transport when necessary.
106. Disciplinary penalties on persons belonging to the guard for offenses committed by them while performing duty are imposed after the changing of the guard or after they are replaced by other servicemen.
If, by the nature of the offense committed, a serviceman cannot be allowed to continue performing duty, then, by order of the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit, ship), he is sent to the military unit (subunit) without weapons and ammunition to be replaced by another serviceman. He is accompanied by the assistant to the chief of the guard (the relief commander) or a person summoned for this purpose from the military unit (subunit).
107. The personnel of the guard must be in guard uniform (Appendix 8), armed with serviceable and normally zeroed submachine guns or carbines with bayonets. The chiefs of the guard are armed with their standard-issue weapons.
The guard is provided with live cartridges on the basis of: for each submachine gun and pistol - two loaded magazines; for each carbine - 30 cartridges in clips.
In addition, by special order of the garrison commander (commander of the military unit), guards may have in their armament machine guns with three loaded magazines for each of them and hand grenades for the entire complement of the guard, on the basis of two grenades for each.
108. The loading of weapons is carried out before going out to the posts, for convoying arrested persons who are under trial, investigation, or convicted, and for escorting persons inspecting the guard, and the unloading and inspection of weapons - immediately upon return to the guardroom.
The loading and unloading of weapons is carried out in front of the guardroom in a specially equipped and illuminated place having a bullet trap, and when proceeding with shifts to the posts in vehicles - in the places indicated in the instructions to the chief of the guard, equipped in the same manner when necessary, on the commands of the chief of the guard or his assistant (relief commanders) and under their direct supervision. During loading and unloading, the barrel of the weapon must be pointed upward (at an angle of 45 - 60 degrees) and away from surrounding residential premises and the guarded facility. If residential and service premises are located near and around the guardroom, the loading and unloading of weapons may be carried out in the guardroom in a special place, also equipped with a bullet trap.
On ships, the loading and unloading of weapons is carried out in the established place on the upper deck.
Pistols are loaded after receiving cartridges in the subunit, and are unloaded after the changing of the guard upon its arrival in the subunit.
109. Weapons are loaded according to the rules indicated in the manuals on small arms for the corresponding types of weapons, and the cartridge is not chambered.
The submachine gun is loaded with a loaded magazine. Before loading, it is inspected (with the hammer released) and the safety is engaged. The bolt carrier is not pulled back after the magazine is attached.
The carbine is loaded to the full capacity of the magazine. After loading the carbine, the bolt is smoothly closed (with the cartridge not chambered), the safety is disengaged, the hammer is released, and the carbine is placed on safety.
The pistol is loaded with a loaded magazine; the bolt is not pulled back during loading. Before loading, the pistol is placed on safety.
Machine guns and hand grenades are loaded immediately before their use.
110. By order of the garrison commander (commander of the military unit), a reserve of live cartridges is created in the guardroom on the basis of: for each submachine gun or carbine - 150 cartridges, for a pistol - 16 cartridges.
The reserve of live cartridges is stored in sealed metal boxes in a special iron box or a box sheathed on the outside with iron.
Hand grenades, in the event that guards are armed with them, and their fuses are stored in separate special boxes, with the fuses stored in special waterproof packaging separately from the grenades.
The book for recording the reserve of live cartridges (Appendix 7) and the book for recording hand grenades and their fuses, as well as the key for opening the sealed metal boxes, are stored in the same boxes. The boxes are locked, sealed by the military commandant of the garrison (chief of staff of the military unit) and included in the inventory of the property and equipment of the guard located in the guardroom. The keys and impressions of the seals from the boxes with ammunition are kept by the chief of the guard. It is not permitted to hand the keys to other persons.
111. The chief of the guard bears personal responsibility for the safekeeping of the boxes with the reserve of live cartridges, grenades and fuses.
The presence and condition of the reserve of ammunition are checked at least once a month: in garrison guards - by the military commandant of the garrison; in internal guards - by the chief of staff of the military unit.
The results of the check are recorded in the books for recording the reserve of ammunition and in the post roster.
112. The provision of guardrooms and posts with equipment, signaling and communications means, as well as the fencing of guarded facilities (Appendices 5 and 6) and their provision with the inventory envisaged by this Regulation, are assigned to the chief of the military facility (commander of the military unit).
The chief of the military facility (commander of the military unit) is also responsible for the lighting of the guardroom and for providing it with fuel and post clothing.
113. The procedure for admission to the technical territory of depots (bases, arsenals), as well as to flammable and especially important facilities, is established by the chiefs of the corresponding central (district) directorates (departments) in accordance with special provisions (instructions).
114. The opening of storage facilities (depots, parks) or admission to the parking places of vehicles (aircraft, guns or other combat equipment) under the protection of the guard is permitted on the basis of a permanent or one-time pass (Appendix 10), signed by the military commandant of the garrison (chief of staff of the military unit) and certified with the official seal.
The list of persons who have the right to open particular storage facilities (depots, parks) or who may be authorized to receive from the guard vehicles (aircraft, guns or other combat equipment) located in parking areas is announced by order of the garrison (of the military unit).
Specimens of passes with authentic signatures, the list of officials who have the right to open particular storage facilities (depots, parks) or to be authorized to access them, as well as specimens of impressions of seals (imprints of seals), certified by the military commandant of the garrison (the chief of staff of the military unit), must be kept in the guardroom (Appendix 6).
115. The procedure for performing guard service for the protection and defense of military installations under special conditions is additionally determined by the Minister of Defense of the USSR.
Chapter 7
DETAILING OF GUARDS AND PREPARATION FOR GUARD DUTY
Detailing of guards
116. Guards are detailed on the basis of the guard schedule (Appendix 1): garrison guards - by the military commandant of the garrison, internal guards - by the chief of staff of the military unit.
Guards must be relieved every twenty-four hours. The same servicemen are assigned to guard duty, as a rule, no more often than every two days.
117. The schedule of garrison guards is drawn up by the military commandant of the garrison, and of internal guards - by the chief of staff of the military unit on the basis of the instructions of the garrison commander (commander of the military unit) on the organization of protection and defense of installations, taking into account their importance, fencing and the provision of reliable protection by the smallest possible number of sentries. The drawing up of the guard schedule must be preceded by familiarization on the ground with the conditions of the location of the installations.
The schedule of guards for the protection of installations under army, district and central subordination, where there are their own protection subunits, is drawn up by the chief of the military installation (depot, base).
Guards from the troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR are not included in the garrison guard schedule.
118. Simultaneously with the guard schedule, for each guard a post layout diagram, a post table (Appendix 3) and instructions to the chief of the guard are drawn up.
The post layout diagram indicates: the boundaries of posts and restricted zones, the type of fencing, the routes of movement of reliefs to posts and of patrols on mobile means, the routes of movement of sentries in daytime and at night, the locations of trenches, observation towers, signaling and firefighting equipment, posts of guard dogs, and the most dangerous approaches to posts.
The post table indicates what is subject to protection and defense at each post; it indicates the duties of the sentry taking into account the specifics of the post and the concrete conditions of performing service at it, the time during which the sentry is permitted to conduct observation from the tower, the distances closer than which the sentry is forbidden to allow unauthorized persons to approach the post, the actions of the sentry in the event of an attack on the post, on neighboring posts and in the event of a fire at the post, and in which cases the sentry is permitted to use weapons.
The instructions set out the special duties of the chief of the guard for the protection and defense of the installations entrusted to the guard, instructions on strengthening protection at night and in inclement weather, on the actions of the guard in the event of an attack on the protected installations, in the event of a fire, a natural disaster, on combat alert signals, as well as instructions on the procedure for opening boxes with ammunition.
The post layout diagram, the post table and the instructions to the chief of the guard are approved by the garrison commander (commander of the military unit).
119. The schedules of garrison guards, as well as of internal guards of military schools, are submitted for approval to the commander of the troops of the military district, and the schedules of internal guards of military units are submitted for approval to the commander of the formation.
The schedules of internal guards of military academies (institutes) are approved by the chiefs of the academies (institutes).
The schedules of internal guards of military units under army, district or central subordination, as well as of internal guards detailed for the protection and defense of installations of the same subordination that have their own protection subunits, are submitted for approval to the corresponding immediate superiors.
A layout diagram of the posts of each guard is attached to the schedule.
120. On the basis of the guard schedule, the military commandant of the garrison (the chief of staff of the military unit) draws up for each month a guard detail roster (Appendix 2), which is approved by the garrison commander (commander of the military unit).
Extracts from the guard detail roster, as well as post layout diagrams, post tables and instructions to chiefs of guards, are sent to all military units of the garrison involved in performing garrison detail service no later than 10 days before the beginning of the new month.
The staff of the military unit, five to six days before the beginning of the new month, notifies the commanders of the subunits from which guards are detailed of the days on which they are to go on duty and of the composition of the guards.
The military commandant of the garrison (the chief of staff of the military unit) promptly notifies the military units (subunits) of any change in the guard detail roster, in the post layout diagram and in the post table.
121. When there are five or more posts at an installation, an officer or warrant officer (midshipman) is appointed as chief of the guard, and when there are fewer posts - a sergeant (sergeant major).
An officer or warrant officer (midshipman) is appointed as chief of the guard protecting an especially important installation, regardless of the number of posts.
In military schools, senior-year cadets may be appointed as chiefs of guards regardless of the number of posts.
An officer is always appointed as chief of the guard at a garrison guardhouse.
By decision of the garrison commander (commander of the military unit), an assistant chief of the guard from among sergeants (sergeant majors) may also be assigned to the guard. If an assistant chief of the guard is not assigned, his duties are performed by the first relief commander.
When the guard includes posts of guard dogs, an assistant chief of the guard for guard dog service is appointed from among the senior handlers of guard dogs (Appendix 11).
122. Relief commanders are assigned to the guard from among sergeants (sergeant majors), lance corporals (senior sailors) or well-trained soldiers (sailors).
The number of relief commanders is determined depending on the number and location of posts, calculated so that each relief commander posts no more than five sentries, and the movement to the posts, the relief of sentries and the return to the guardroom take no more than one hour.
When several relief commanders are assigned to a guard, they are designated: first relief commander, second relief commander, etc.
If a guard protects a single post, a relief commander is not appointed; his duties are performed by the chief of the guard.
123. Sentries are appointed from among soldiers (sailors). When there is a shortage of soldiers (sailors), sergeants (petty officers) of conscript service may be appointed as sentries. In this case, all the shifts of the post (posts) are made up of them, and a serviceman with a military rank not lower than the military rank of the sentries is appointed as the guard commander.
The number of sentries is determined depending on the number of posts established for the given guard, and for guarding a post around the clock three shifts of sentries are appointed, while for guarding a post only during the night (from the onset of darkness until dawn or from the closing until the opening of the warehouse, storage facility of the given post) - two shifts of sentries.
Escorts are appointed depending on the number of those under arrest and the location of common-use areas in the guardhouse, at the rate of one escort per 10 - 15 persons under arrest.
124. The composition of the guard, including the guard commander, is appointed no later than one day before entering the duty detail, as a rule, from one subunit, and in an extreme case - from one military unit.
All garrison guards are appointed, as a rule, from one military unit.
Preparation of guards
125. The commanders of military units and subunits from which guards are detailed bear responsibility for the selection of the personnel of the guards and their preparation for the performance of service, for the serviceable condition of weapons and live cartridges, and for the timely dispatch of the guards to the guard mounting.
126. The preparation of the personnel of a guard detailed from a company (battery) is organized by the company (battery) commander and conducted by him personally; of a guard detailed from a battalion (division) - personally by the battalion (division) commander; and of a guard detailed from a military unit - by one of the commanders of the subunits from which the guard is detailed, on the instructions of the unit commander.
Classes with the personnel of the guard are conducted practically, taking into account the specifics of guarding each facility, at places specially equipped for this purpose.
127. The chiefs of staff of military units, three days before the garrison or internal guards enter the duty detail, are obliged to hand over to the commanders of the subunits from which the guards are detailed the post location diagrams, the post registers and the instructions to the guard commanders for study by the personnel of the guards. After study, the said documents are returned to the staff of the military unit.
128. On the night preceding entry into the duty detail, servicemen appointed to the guard must not perform any service or be called upon for classes and work.
On the day of entry into the duty detail, during the hours indicated in the daily routine, the personnel of the guard must be given not less than three hours of time for preparation for the performance of service, for checking knowledge of duties, ability to handle weapons, and for rest (sleep).
129. The commander of a company (battery) or battalion (division) from which a guard is detailed is obliged:
- on the eve of entry into the duty detail, to check the calculation and selection of the personnel of the guard in accordance with the post register;
- to conduct classes on the preparation of the personnel of the guard and to check their knowledge of their duties;
- before dispatching the personnel of the guard to the guard mounting, to check the condition of their weapons and live cartridges, the appearance of each serviceman, and also to fill out and sign the post record sheet (Appendix 4);
- to ensure the timely dispatch of the guard to the guard mounting;
- to check the performance of service by the guard detailed from the company (battery) or battalion (division);
- after the changing of the guard, to receive the report of the guard commander on the fulfillment of the task, to familiarize himself with all the remarks recorded in the post record sheet, no later than the next day to conduct a debriefing on the performance of service with all the personnel of the company (battery) and to send the post record sheet to the staff of the military unit with notes on the measures taken regarding the remarks.
130. 15 minutes before leaving for the guard mounting, the guards must be ready for the performance of service and taken under the command of the guard commanders. By this time the guard commanders are obliged:
- to receive the live cartridges, issue them to the personnel and check the correct loading of the magazines (clips);
- to check the calculation of the guards according to the post record sheet;
- to inspect the weapons;
- to check the serviceability of clothing and equipment;
- to report on the readiness of the guard to the commander of the company (battery) or battalion (division).
From the subunit the guards proceed with unloaded weapons, having the magazines (clips) in pouches (except for the guard commanders armed with pistols).
131. All garrison guards are dispatched from the military unit by the unit duty officer. He reports on the dispatch of the guards to the commander (chief of staff) of the military unit and to the military commandant of the garrison.
Chapter 8

All persons approaching the post or the restricted boundary marked by signs, except the guard chief, the assistant of the guard chief, his own guard commander's assistant and the persons accompanied by them, are stopped by the sentry with the shout "Halt, back" or "Halt, go around to the right (left)".
If the person approaching the post or the restricted boundary fails to comply with this demand, the sentry warns the violator with the shout "Halt, I will shoot" and immediately calls the guard chief or the guard commander's assistant.
If the trespasser does not comply with this demand, the sentry chambers a round and fires a warning shot into the air. If the trespasser fails to comply with this demand as well and attempts to penetrate the post (cross the restricted boundary) or takes to flight after such an attempt, the sentry uses his weapon against him.
177. In conditions of poor visibility, when from the distance specified in the post table it is impossible to make out persons approaching the post or the restricted boundary, the sentry halts them with the cry "Halt, who goes there?". If no answer follows, the sentry warns: "Halt, I will shoot" - and detains the trespasser. The sentry reports the detained trespasser to the guardroom by the established signal and, without relaxing his attention, continues to guard the object entrusted to him and watches the trespasser's behavior.
If the trespasser does not stop and attempts to penetrate to the guarded object (the post) or, after such an attempt, takes to flight, the sentry fires a warning shot into the air. If the trespasser fails to comply with this demand as well, the sentry uses his weapon against him.
When the sentry's cry is answered with "The guard commander is coming (assistant guard commander, relief commander)", the sentry orders: "Guard commander (assistant guard commander, relief commander), come to me, the rest - stay where you are"; if necessary, the sentry requires the person approaching him to illuminate his face. Having made certain that the person who identified himself is indeed the guard commander (assistant guard commander, relief commander), the sentry allows all the persons who have arrived to come up to him.
If, however, the person who identified himself as the guard commander (assistant guard commander, relief commander) turns out to be unknown, or the persons with him fail to comply with the sentry's demand to remain where they are, the sentry warns the trespassers with the cry "Halt, I will shoot". If the trespassers fail to comply with this demand, the sentry uses his weapon against them.
178. If it becomes necessary to engage in hand-to-hand combat to defend himself or the guarded object, the sentry must act boldly with the bayonet or the butt.
179. In the event of a fire at the post, the sentry immediately reports it to the guardroom by the established signal and, without ceasing observation of the guarded object, takes measures to extinguish the fire. If a fire occurs on the technical territory of the guarded object or at an object having external and internal fences, as well as near the post, he reports it to the guardroom while continuing to perform his duty at the post.
180. In the event of his sudden illness (wounding), the sentry summons the relief commander or the guard commander by the established signal while continuing to perform his duty.
181. In extreme, urgent cases or in the event of a malfunction of the means of communication and signaling, the sentry may summon the guard commander or the relief commander to the post by a shot into the air.
182. The sentry renders the military salute to the commanders to whom he is subordinate and to other commanders who have arrived at the post in their company, according to the rules set forth in the Drill Regulations of the Armed Forces of the USSR. In doing so, the submachine gun is first taken from the firing position standing "on the sling", and the carbine - "to the foot".
183. The sentry at the Battle Banner performs his duties standing in the "at ease" position. When servicemen render the military salute to the Battle Banner, the sentry assumes the "attention" position.
While the Battle Banner is being taken under guard, the sentry is obliged to check the serviceability of the cover (cabinet) and the seal on it. He issues the Battle Banner only on the personal order of the guard commander and in his presence.
If the post at the Battle Banner is threatened by danger (fire, flood or other natural disaster), the sentry carries the Battle Banner out to a safe place and summons the guard commander.
184. The sentry at an opened storage facility (warehouse, park) or during work at the parking site of vehicles (aircraft, guns or other combat equipment) performs the duties specified in the post table.

- to know the number of arrested persons under his guard;
- to be outside at the doors of the cells and to observe through the inspection windows that the arrested persons do not violate the rules established for them, to watch their actions and behavior, and not to allow the arrested persons to damage window frames and grilles, floors and walls;
- to see to it that at night the cells of the arrested persons are lighted;
- not to let the arrested persons out of the cells and not to allow anyone to approach them without the personal order of the guard commander, the assistant guard commander or his own relief commander;
- not to talk with the arrested persons, not to hand anything to them and not to accept anything from them;
- not to allow the arrested persons to receive any parcels from the street, to throw things and notes out the window into the street, or to talk with outsiders;
- upon receiving a request from an arrested person to call the escort, to report this to the relief commander, the guard commander or his assistant;
- to immediately summon the guard commander, his assistant or the relief commander if the arrested persons fail to comply with his demands;
- to warn an arrested person (arrested persons) attempting to escape with the cry "Halt, I will shoot", and if this demand is not complied with, to use his weapon.
When arrested persons are transported from one point to another, as well as when they move outside the limits of the guardhouse, the duties of the sentry for guarding arrested persons are performed by the convoy guard.
186. The sentry at the entrance to the guardroom is obliged to guard the guardroom and not to allow anyone to approach it except persons to whom the guard is subordinate, if he knows them by sight, and persons accompanied by them. The sentry notifies the guard commander of the approach of these persons by the established signal and passes them without hindrance into the guardroom. The sentry halts all other persons approaching the guardroom at the distance specified in the post table and summons the guard commander or his assistant.
In poor visibility, when from the distance specified in the post table it is impossible to make out persons approaching the guardroom, the sentry halts them with the cry "Halt" and summons the guard commander or his assistant.
The sentry shall immediately report to the guard commander or his assistant all incidents occurring near the guardroom and everything noticed that may hinder the guard from carrying out its task, as well as any signals heard from the posts.
187. The special duties of sentries in relation to the conditions of guarding and defending each facility are specified in the post table.
Vehicle driver
188. The vehicle driver is responsible for the constant readiness of the vehicle for immediate use in transporting the guard personnel. He is subordinate to the guard commander and his assistant.
The vehicle driver is obliged:
- to keep the vehicle in constant readiness for action;
- on the order of the guard commander or his assistant, to deliver to the posts and from the posts the reliefs and persons checking the performance of duty by the sentries, along the route indicated in the post layout diagram;
- to carry out the commands of the guard escort when departing for the posts and returning from the posts.
The driver is prohibited from transferring control of the vehicle to another person, including persons to whom he is subordinate.
Escort
189. The escort is responsible for guarding arrested persons when convoying them within the limits of the guardhouse. He is subordinate to the guard commander and his assistant.
The escort is obliged:
- on the order of the guard commander or his assistant, to convoy arrested persons for morning and evening washing, for relieving natural needs and for exercise, as well as during the cleaning of cells and premises of the guardhouse;
- when convoying arrested persons, to have the weapon in the "on the belt" position;
- to see to it that the convoyed arrested persons do not smoke and do not communicate with outsiders;
- to warn an arrested person (arrested persons) attempting to escape with the cry "Halt, I will shoot", and if this demand is not complied with, to use his weapon.
190. When convoying arrested persons, the escort is prohibited from entering into conversation with them, from accepting anything from them or passing anything to them, as well as from eating, drinking, smoking, singing, sitting, relieving natural needs and otherwise being distracted from the performance of his official duties.
For convoying arrested persons, the escort forms them into a column of one and follows two to three paces behind and to the left (right) of the arrested persons (arrested person). All commands are given by the escort.
The procedure for convoying arrested persons, as well as the special duties of the convoy guards, are set out in Appendix 15.
Chapter 9
POSTING AND RELIEVING OF GUARDS
Posting of guards
191. The posting of guards consists in checking the readiness of the guards to perform duty, in their passing under the subordination of the persons specified in Art. 100, and in granting the guards the right to relieve the old guards. The posting of guards must not last more than 40 minutes.
192. The place and time of the posting of garrison guards is established by the garrison commander, and of internal guards by the commander of the military unit, proceeding from the consideration that the time for the movement of the guards to the place of posting and from the place of posting to the guardroom does not exceed one and a half hours.
In large garrisons, the posting of guards may, by order of the garrison commander, be carried out by sections.
193. If the movement to the place of posting or from the place of posting to the guardroom requires more than 30 minutes, transport must be provided to the guard by order of the garrison commander (commander of the military unit).
194. The entire personnel of the guard and the orchestra are brought out for the posting; they arrive at the place of posting not later than 10 minutes before it begins.
In garrisons and military units where there are no orchestras, as well as at a temperature of -15 deg. C and below, two to three drummers are brought out for the posting of guards.
195. The posting of garrison (camp) guards is carried out by the duty officer for guards (the duty officer for guards of a section, the duty officer for the camp assembly).
The posting of internal (ship) guards is carried out by the duty officer of the military unit (of the ship).
The posting of temporary guards is carried out together with the permanent guards. If temporary guards are assigned after the posting of the permanent guards, their posting is carried out separately.
196. Upon arriving at the guard mounting location, each guard chief reports to the new assistant officer of the day for guards, for example: "Comrade Lieutenant. Guard number one has arrived at the mounting in full strength. Guard chief Lieutenant Semenov".
197. The new assistant duty officer for guards forms the guards in the order of their numbers: with submachine guns - in the "on the belt" position, with carbines - at the foot.
On the right flank of each guard stands the guard commander, and on the left flank his assistant; the escorts stand to the right of their sentries in the first rank. The sentries stand in the order of the post numbers from right to left, one behind the other in the order of the reliefs, the escorts to their left. The vehicles of the guards with their drivers are positioned in the place allotted to them.
During the posting of internal guards, the rest of the daily detail is formed to the left of the guards in the order specified in the Internal Service Regulations of the Armed Forces of the USSR.
The orchestra (drummers) is formed on the right flank of the guards three paces to the right of the assistant duty officer for guards.
198. To meet the guard duty officer, his assistant, as the duty officer approaches the formation at 40 - 50 paces, commands: "Guards - ATTENTION", "STAND AT ATTENTION", "Eyes-RIGHT (LEFT, CENTER)", and if the guards (guard) are armed with carbines, he commands: "Guards - ATTENTION", "STAND AT ATTENTION", "For the meeting on the right (left, from the front), to the GUARD". On the command "Attention", the military conductor steps out at a marching pace to the center of the orchestra's formation and stands two - three paces from the first rank, facing the front. On the first command, the guard chiefs armed with pistols raise their hand to their headgear; all turn their heads toward the guard duty officer and follow him with their eyes, turning their heads after him. On the second command, in addition, the carbines are brought to the position "to the guard". The orchestra plays the "Meeting March" (the drummers beat the "Marching March"). The assistant to the guard duty officer, having raised his hand to his headgear, approaches the guard duty officer at a marching pace, stops two - three paces from him and reports, for example: "Comrade Major. The guards are formed for the posting. Assistant to the guard duty officer, Lieutenant Novikov". Having finished the report, the assistant to the guard duty officer, without lowering his hand from his headgear, takes a step to the side with his left (right) foot while simultaneously turning right (left) and, having let the guard duty officer pass ahead, follows him one - two paces behind and on the outer side of the formation.
When the assistant to the guard duty officer stops to deliver the report, the orchestra (drummers) stops playing (beating).
199. Having received the report, the guard duty officer stands before the center of the formation and greets the personnel of the guards: "Hello, comrades"; after the response to the greeting, he commands: "AT EASE" - and lowers his hand from his headgear. The assistant to the guard duty officer gives the command "AT EASE" and lowers his hand from his headgear. The guard chiefs lower their hands from their headgear.
If the guards (guard) are armed with carbines, the assistant to the guard duty officer gives the command "To the FOOT", and then "AT EASE".
200. When an assistant to the guard duty officer is not appointed, his duties at the posting, set out in arts. 197 - 199, are performed by the guard chief who is senior in military rank, and if the guard chiefs are of equal military ranks - by guard chief number one. Having given the command "At ease", he takes his place.
201. To inspect the guards, the guard duty officer, if necessary, opens the ranks one pace from one another and, together with his assistant, inspects the composition of the guards, the appearance of the personnel, their knowledge of their duties, as well as the serviceability of the weapons, and gives instructions on eliminating the shortcomings identified.
When the guard duty officer approaches a guard, the guard chief, having stepped out of the formation, introduces himself to him, during the inspection of the personnel of his guard accompanies the guard duty officer and then, having received permission, takes his place.
If any guard turns out to be unprepared to perform service, the guard duty officer returns it to the military unit from which the guard was detailed, for additional preparation or replacement, and immediately reports this to the chief and the military commandant of the garrison. The guard duty officer or his assistant performs the posting of this guard separately.
202. Upon completion of the inspection, the guard duty officer steps out to the center of the formation and stands in front of the guards facing them; the assistant to the duty officer stands one pace behind and to the left of the guard duty officer. The guard duty officer commands: "Guards - ATTENTION", "STAND AT ATTENTION", "Orchestra, play the assembly" ("Drummers, beat the assembly"). On the command "Stand at attention", the guard duty officer, his assistant and the guard chiefs armed with pistols raise their hand to their headgear.
203. Upon the end of the playing of the "Assembly", the guard duty officer, his assistant and the guard chiefs lower their hands from their headgear. The guard duty officer commands: "Guard chiefs, to me". The guard chiefs approach the guard duty officer at a marching pace, stand two - three paces from him in one rank (with an interval of one pace) in the order of the guard numbers and introduce themselves, for example: "Guard chief number one, Lieutenant Petrov".
The guard duty officer reminds each guard chief of the particulars of his service and hands out notes with the passwords.
204. Having handed over the notes with the passwords and made sure that the passwords are understood correctly, the guard duty officer commands: "Guard chiefs, take your places in the formation". On this command the guard chiefs take their places in the formation; the orchestra (drummers) moves forward 10 - 15 paces and, having wheeled by the right shoulder, stands facing the guards. The guard duty officer commands: "Orchestra, play the posting". During the playing of the orchestra, the guard duty officer, his assistant and the guard chiefs armed with pistols raise their hand to their headgear.
Upon the end of the orchestra's playing, the guard duty officer commands: "Guards, to the-RIGHT", "At a pace - MARCH". If the guards (guard) are armed with carbines, then after the command "Guards, to the-RIGHT" the command "At sl-ING" is given. On the command "March" the guards pass by the guard duty officer at a marching pace and proceed to their security objects; the guard chiefs walk two paces in front of their guards; the distributing officers - one pace in front of the sentries of their posts; the assistants to the guard chiefs walk behind their guards. The orchestra (drummers), remaining in place, performs a march.
The playing of the orchestra (the beating of the drummers) stops on the order (signal) of the guard duty officer.
205. If during the changing of the guards the garrison commander, the military commandant of the garrison (in internal guards, the commander of the military unit) or their direct superiors arrive, as well as the person directing the inspection or verification of the military units of the garrison (military unit), the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit), in order to meet them, commands: "Guards - ATTENTION", "STAND AT ATTENTION", "Eyes-RIGHT (LEFT, CENTER)", and if the guards (guard) are armed with carbines, he commands: "Guards - ATTENTION", "STAND AT ATTENTION", "For meeting on the right (left, front), to the GU-ARD". The orchestra plays the "Counter March" (the drummers beat the "Marching March"), the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit), having placed his hand to his headgear, approaches the superior at a marching step, stops two to three steps from him and reports, for example: "Comrade Colonel. The changing of the guards (daily detail) is being conducted. Duty officer for the guards (for the military unit) Major Zubov". When the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit) stops to deliver the report, the orchestra (drummers) stops playing (beating). Having received permission from the superior, the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit) commands: "AT EASE" or "TO THE FOOT" and then "AT EASE" - and continues the performance of his duties.
In order to meet a senior superior, persons present at the changing of the guards and not forming part of the guards are formed up to the right of the orchestra in one or two ranks.
Changing of the guards
206. The commander of the new guard, upon arriving after the changing of the guards at the location of the guard being relieved, halts the guard in front of the entrance to the territory of the guarded facility or in front of the guardroom at the distance specified in the instructions to the guard commander, reports to the commander of the guard being relieved and gives him the old password; after this he forms his guard up on the parade ground in front of the guardroom facing it.
207. The commander of the old guard, having satisfied himself of the correctness of the password presented to him, brings his guard out of the guardroom, leaving in the room his assistant or one of the relief commanders, and forms the guard up on the parade ground six to eight steps in front of the front of the new guard. After the formation, the guard commanders, in turn, beginning with the commander of the new guard, give the commands: "Guard - ATTENTION", "STAND AT ATTENTION".
Having given the commands, the guard commanders, armed with pistols, having placed their hands to their headgear, proceed towards each other at a marching step, stop two to three steps from one another and, beginning with the commander of the new guard, report, for example: "Comrade Lieutenant. The new guard has arrived for the changing of the guards. Guard commander Lieutenant Novikov"; "Comrade Lieutenant. The old guard is ready for the changing of the guards. Guard commander Lieutenant Petrov", after which they lower their hands from their headgear.
Guard commanders armed with submachine guns or carbines do not place their hands to their headgear, but after the command "Stand at attention" proceed towards each other, holding submachine guns in the "on the belt" position and carbines at the foot.
After the reports, the guard commanders change the sentry at the entrance to the guardroom, and then command their guards: "To the ri-GHT, step - MARCH".
The commander of the new guard leads his guard into the guardroom, while the commander of the old guard, having led his guard to the place specified in the instructions to the guard commander, leaves the senior man in his place and, together with his relief commanders, enters the guardroom.
At a temperature of -15 deg. C and below, as well as in inclement weather and in guards with a single post, the changing of the guards is carried out in the guardroom without observing the rules set forth in this article. The commander of the new guard, after reporting to the commander of the old guard and giving him the old password, leads his guard into the guardroom for the changing of the guards.
208. The personnel of the new guard, having entered the room, place their weapons in the rack, after which the commanders of the old and new guards order their relief commanders to hand over (accept) the impressions of the seals (impressions of the lead seals) and personally observe the correctness of the transfer. The assistant commander of the old guard hands over, and the assistant commander of the new guard accepts, the guardroom and the equipment, inventory and property located in it according to the inventory, and in the absence of relief commanders, also the impressions of the seals (impressions of the lead seals). In a guard where there is no assistant guard commander, the acceptance and handover of the guardroom, equipment, inventory and property is carried out by the guard commander. The commander of the old guard informs the commander of the new guard of all remarks and instructions received by the old guard personnel.
209. After accepting the impressions of the seals (impressions of the lead seals), the commander of the new guard commands: "First relief - FALL IN". On this command, the relief commanders and sentries of the first relief, having taken their weapons, form up in a single rank in the order of the numbers of the posts from right to left. The relief commanders take their places on the right flanks of their reliefs, carrying with them the impressions of the seals (impressions of the lead seals).
The relief commanders of the old guard take their places alongside and to the right of the corresponding relief commanders of the new guard.
The commander of the new guard checks the relief commanders' and sentries' knowledge of their duties, reminds the sentries of the specifics of performing the service at each post, paying special attention to the procedure for the use of weapons, leads the relief out of the guardroom and, having formed it up on the parade ground for loading weapons, commands: "RELIEF, from the right, one at a time - LOAD". On this command, the servicemen one after another take a step forward, fix the bayonet and load their weapons, while the guard commander checks the correctness of the loading of the weapons (art. 109). Having loaded their weapons, each of them reports: "The weapon is loaded and the safety is on", takes it independently into the "on the belt" position and takes a step back.
210. After the relief has loaded its weapons, the commander of the new guard commands: "Relief, to the ri-GHT", "To the posts, step - MARCH". Each relief commander commands: "Relief, follow me - MARCH" - and leads the relief to the posts.
After the first relief leaves the guardroom, the assistant guard commander makes a combat assignment of the remaining personnel of the guard into reserve groups and sets tasks in the event of repelling an attack on the guarded facilities or on the guardroom and in the event of extinguishing a fire.
211. The movement of reliefs to and from the posts is carried out in a column of one. The relief commander follows at the head of the column. The movement of reliefs to the posts at the Combat Banner of the military unit (formation) and at monuments is carried out at a marching step.
The relief commander of the old guard follows alongside and to the left of the relief commander of the new guard.
All commands are given by the relief commanders of the new guard.
In guards with a large number of posts, as well as when they are located at a great distance from one another or from the guardroom, the movement of reliefs to the posts may be carried out in vehicles allocated for this purpose by the garrison commander (military unit commander).
212. When the last sentry of the first relief of the new guard has been posted, the relief commander of the old guard leads his relieved sentries to the guardroom, following at the head of the relief. The relief commander of the new guard follows to the left of the relief commander of the old guard.
All commands are given by the relief commander of the old guard.
213. When moving to and from posts, the reliefs of sentries render the military salute in accordance with the Drill Regulations of the Armed Forces of the USSR.
214. When the guard is changed, the commander of the new guard, together with the commander of the old guard, checks by making a round and an external inspection the condition of the most important guarded objects specified in the instructions to the guard commander and the serviceability of their lighting, fencing, trenches, the condition of the guardroom and the guardhouse, after which he takes over from him according to the inventory the documents, the boxes with ammunition, the seals on them and the keys to them, the passes to the opened guarded objects, as well as the means of communication and signaling.
215. Upon return from the posts, the weapons are unloaded in the manner specified in Art. 108. First the relief commanders of both guards unload their weapons, then the relief commander of the old guard commands: "From the right, one at a time - UNLOAD".
On this command the sentries, one after another, take a step forward, under the supervision of the relief commander unload their weapons, place the loaded magazines (clips with cartridges) into the pouches and report: "Weapon unloaded"; having pulled the bolt carrier (bolt) back, they present the weapon for inspection. The relief commander inspects the sentries' weapons, after which the sentries release the bolt carrier (push the bolt) to the forward position, release the hammer, put the weapon on safe, unlock (fold) the bayonet, take the weapon to the "on the belt" position and, taking a step back, return to their place. Then the sentries, under the command of the senior, proceed to the location of the old guard, and the relief commanders - to the guardroom.
216. The relief commanders of the old and new guards report in turn to their guard commanders about the change effected, for example: "Comrade Lieutenant. The change has been made. The posts have been handed over (taken over) in good order. First relief commander Sergeant Ivanov". Having received the reports, the guard commanders, beginning with the old one, sign the post roster of the old guard, and the commander of the new guard enters in it remarks about all deficiencies discovered during the change.
If a person who has arrived to inspect the guard is present at the change of the guard, the relief commanders, having asked his permission, report to the guard commanders about the change effected. After receiving the reports from the relief commanders, the commander of the new guard commands: "ATTENTION"; then the guard commanders report in turn to the inspector about the change effected.
In all cases the guard commanders report the change to their duty officer for guards (for the military unit) by telephone, by personal report, or report it in writing through a sentry.
217. After the change of the guard, the commander of the old guard leads the guard back to his military unit (subunit).
Upon arrival at the subunit after the change of the guard, the guard commander forms up the guard personnel and reports to the subunit commander on the fulfillment of the task, for example: "Comrade Captain. The guard has arrived in full strength. During the performance of duty no incidents occurred (or such-and-such occurred). Lieutenant Ivanov", after which he reports on the results of the inspection of the guard noted in the post roster and hands over to him the post roster together with the other documents. After this the guard personnel, under the personal supervision of the guard commander, turn in their weapons and live cartridges.
Sentries who guarded objects only at night, upon the expiration of the period of guarding the object, without waiting for the change of the guard, are sent by the guard commander to their military unit (subunit) under the command of a senior, about which the guard commander makes an entry in the post roster and reports to the duty officer for guards (for the military unit). Upon arrival at the subunit, the senior is obliged to report to the subunit first sergeant and to supervise the turning in of weapons and ammunition by the sentries.
218. The relieved guard personnel are exempted on the day of the change from classes and work; sentries who guarded objects only at night are exempted from classes and work for 4 hours after arrival at the subunit.
219. The withdrawal of a guard from a guarded object is carried out by the duty officer for guards (for the military unit) in accordance with the written order of the garrison commander (military unit commander), certified by a seal, in the presence of the chief of the guarded object. A report is drawn up on the withdrawal of the guard, signed by the duty officer for guards (for the military unit), the guard commander and the chief of the guarded object. The report states the handing over of the guarded object, the guardroom and the equipment and inventory located in it and at the posts.
On the withdrawal of a permanent garrison guard, the garrison commander submits a report to the commander of the troops of the military district; on the withdrawal of a permanent internal guard, the military unit commander submits a report to the chief who approved the guard schedule.
Change of sentries
220. The change of sentries is carried out every 2 hours, at an even or odd hour.
At an air temperature of -20 deg. C and below, and during wind also at a lesser frost, the change of sentries of external posts, as well as of internal posts located in unheated premises, is carried out every hour. At an air temperature of +30 deg. C and above (in the shade), the change of sentries is also carried out every hour. The instruction on the change of sentries every hour in these cases is given by the duty officer for guards (for the military unit).
If the change of sentries was carried out every hour, the guard commander makes an entry in the post roster that the sentries were changed every hour from such-and-such an hour, and from such-and-such an hour, after the assumption of duty by such-and-such a relief, - every 2 hours.
The change of sentries at the entrance to the guardroom is carried out every 30 minutes by the assistant guard commander or the guard commander.
221. When the relief approaches the sentry to a distance of 10 - 15 paces, the relief commander of the new guard commands: "Relief - HALT" - and orders one of the sentries to observe (when the relief is moving in a vehicle - to load his weapon and observe) the post and the approaches to it.
When the relief approaches, the sentry turns to face it and independently brings the submachine gun to the "on the belt" position (the carbine to "at the foot"). The commander of the old guard approaches the sentry and commands him: "ATTENTION". Then, on the command of the commander of the new guard, for example: "Private Vasilyev, to the post at a walk - MARCH", the sentry takes a step to the right, the guard approaches the sentry and takes his place facing the opposite direction (with the carbine at the foot).
The commanders of the old and new guards stand on either side of the sentry and the guard at one or two paces from them, facing each other.
On the command of the commander of the old guard, "Sentry, hand over the post", the sentry performs the verbal handover of the post. At this, the sentry and the guard turn their heads toward each other. The verbal handover of the post consists in the sentry, having named the number of the post, listing to the guard taking over the post everything subject to protection according to the post table, and also indicating what was noticed near the post during his performance of duty.
After the verbal handover of the post, the guard, on the command of his commander, "Guard, take over the post", is obliged, together with the commander of the new guard, in the presence of the sentry and the commander of the old guard, to walk around the protected object and check the serviceability of the fence, doors (gates), windows and walls of the storage facilities (depots, parks), the number and condition of the boxes, the number of vehicles, aircraft, guns or other combat equipment. If the handover involves locks, seals and stamps, he is obliged to inspect them and check whether they are intact and whether the cords are serviceable. When taking over a post at cells with arrested persons, the guard is, in addition, obliged to check the number of arrested persons held in them.
If necessary, the guard taking over the post, with the help of the commander, puts on the post clothing (Appendix 8).
222. When posting the first relief of sentries, both commanders observe that the sentry being relieved correctly performs the handover of the post to the guard taking over the post, familiarizes him with the fence, the alarm system and the approaches to the post and with all the peculiarities of the post; when the post clothing is taken over, they check its serviceability.
223. If, during the taking over and handover of the post, any defect is discovered (damage to the fence or to the stamps, seals, locks, cords, doors, windows) or a discrepancy of the stamps (seals) with the impressions (imprints), with the number indicated in the post table, as well as a discrepancy in the number of combat equipment under protection, the commander suspends the transfer of the post and calls the chief of the guard; when posts are taken over by a new guard, in such cases the chiefs of the old and new guards are called.
224. Having finished the handover and taking over of the post, the sentry and the guard taking over the post turn to face the direction opposite the protected object and report in turn, for example: "Comrade Sergeant. Private Petrov has handed over post number such-and-such"; "Comrade Senior Sergeant. Private Vasilyev has taken over post number such-and-such". After the report and receipt of instructions from the commander, the sentry takes the weapon as indicated in Art. 173 and proceeds to perform his duties at the post.
225. The transition of a guard to the status of sentry (of a sentry to the status of guard) is determined by his report on taking over (handing over) the post.
226. On the command of the commander of the old guard, for example: "Private Petrov, from the post at a walk - MARCH", the relieved guard stands behind the relief and independently brings the carbine to the "on the belt" position. After this, the commander of the new guard commands: "Relief, follow me at a walk - MARCH" - and leads the relief to the next post.
227. When relieving the sentries of internal posts, the commander, having brought the relief to the entrance of the premises, commands: "Relief - HALT", leaves one of the guards as senior and commands, for example: "Privates Smirnov and Mikhailov, follow me at a walk - MARCH". The commander with the guards, having entered the premises, relieves the sentries in accordance with Art. 221 - 226.
228. When the posts are located on both sides of the guardroom, the commander first relieves the sentries at the posts located on one side of the guardroom, and then, having left the relieved men in the guardroom, forms up the remaining guards of this relief and leads them to the posts.
Upon the return of the relief from the posts, the commander orders the guards to place their weapons in the rack.
229. The forming up of the second and subsequent reliefs of the new guard for sending them to the posts and the relieving of sentries, as well as the loading and unloading of weapons, are carried out in the same way as indicated for the first relief.
230. The posting of sentries at new posts, as well as the withdrawal of sentries from abolished posts, are carried out by the chief of the guard on the basis of a written order of the garrison commander (commander of the military unit) certified by a seal, in the presence of the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit) and the chief of the protected object; a record is made in the post register about the posting (withdrawal) of sentries.
Chapter 10
INTERNAL ORDER IN THE GUARDS
231. No member of the guard has the right to leave the guardroom without the permission of the chief of the guard.
232. Silence and order must be maintained in the guardroom. Singing and playing musical instruments are prohibited. It is permitted to listen to radio broadcasts through headphones, to read, to write and to play chess and checkers. Smoking and cleaning footwear are permitted only in the places designated for this.
233. Submachine guns and machine guns are placed in the racks without magazines, with the bolts in the forward position. Carbines are placed in the racks unloaded, with the bolts closed and the hammers lowered. The racks in the guardroom must not be locked. Magazines for machine guns are kept in a special box of the rack, locked, the key to which is held by the chief of the guard.
The pouches with loaded magazines for submachine guns (clips for carbines) and the sheaths are not removed from the waist belts.
Chiefs of guards armed with pistols do not remove them in the guardroom.
Weapons are taken from the rack only with the permission of the chief of the guard or his assistant. Cleaning of weapons is carried out under their guidance and direct supervision. Disassembly of weapons for cleaning is not permitted.
234. The personnel of the guard are permitted to be in the guardroom without headgear and overcoats, but in equipment. Removed overcoats and headgear must be on the rack.

In those cases where a sentry is not posted at the guardroom, the entrance doors of the guardroom are equipped with a peephole and must always be locked from the inside.
Chapter 11
INSPECTION OF GUARDS
243. Besides the persons to whom guards are subordinate (Art. 100), guards must be inspected by the commanders of the companies (batteries) from which they are detailed, as well as by their deputies and all direct superiors of these commanders.
Inspection of guards by officials of the garrison (military unit) is carried out according to a schedule approved by the garrison commander (commander of the military unit).
Guards located on the territory of a railway (water) section and station (port), airport, as well as guards of all transports with military cargoes passing through the station (port), airport, must moreover be inspected by the military commandant of the railway (water) section and station (port), airport or his assistants.
244. Guards are also inspected by:
- persons on the instruction of the Minister of Defense of the USSR and his deputies, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, the commander of the troops of a military district (fleet);
- persons on the instruction of the commanders-in-chief of other branches of the Armed Forces of the USSR, the commanders of arms of troops (chiefs of special troops) and their deputies - guards detailed from subordinate troops;

245. The persons indicated in Art. 244 are obliged to present to the garrison commander (commander of the military unit) written orders, certified with a seal, of the superiors on whose instruction they have been appointed to inspect guards. On the basis of these orders they are issued a one-time certificate for the right to inspect guards, signed by the commander or military commandant of the garrison (commander of the military unit), certified with an official seal, which is presented to the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit). The said one-time certificate is issued by the garrison commander also to persons appointed by him to inspect both garrison and internal guards, and by the commander of the military unit - for the inspection of internal guards.
The one-time certificate states to whom it was issued, which particular guards it authorizes to be inspected, and within what period of time the inspection must be carried out. Upon expiration of the certificate's validity period, it is handed in by the inspector to the military commandant's office of the garrison (to the headquarters of the military unit).
A certificate authorizing the inspection of guards is not issued to the commander of the company (battery) from which the guard is detailed, nor to his deputies or to any of the direct superiors of the commander of the company (battery).
The military commandant of a railway (water) sector and station (port), airport, and his assistants also inspect guards located on the territory of the railway (water) sector and station (port), airport, without a certificate authorizing the inspection of guards, but upon presentation of an identity document.
Guards of the troops of the USSR State Security Committee and the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs are inspected by officials of those troops.

All persons who arrive to inspect guards on the instructions of the superiors listed in Article 244 shall carry out the inspection accompanied by the duty officer for the guards (for the military unit) or his assistant (the assistant of the duty officer for the military unit, if the guard is subordinate to him). The duty officer for the guards (for the military unit) checks the identity document and the one-time certificate authorizing the inspection of the guard of these persons.
Officers of their own military unit may inspect the guard without being accompanied by the duty officer for the military unit or his assistant.
247. Persons inspecting the performance of duty by sentries are accompanied through the posts by the chief of the guard or his assistant with one or two armed guards.
Persons inspecting the performance of duty by sentries (except for persons to whom the sentries are subordinate) do not make remarks to them; they give instructions concerning all deficiencies noticed to the persons accompanying them. The inspectors record the results of the inspection and their instructions in the post log.
During the inspection of the performance of duty by a sentry, in order to strengthen observation of the object being guarded, the chief of the guard (assistant chief of the guard) engages the guard accompanying him.
248. It is prohibited to inspect the performance of duty by a sentry by stealthily approaching the post, by attempts to take the sentry's weapon away, or by other methods that could lead to accidents.

After this, the chief of staff of the military unit returns the post logs of garrison guards, indicating what measures have been taken to eliminate the deficiencies noted in them, to the military commandant of the garrison no later than two days later.
Post logs of guards are kept in the military commandant's office (in the headquarters of the military unit) for the year following the current year.
Chapter 12
SPECIFIC FEATURES OF THE ORGANIZATION AND PERFORMANCE OF GUARD DUTY
IN SEPARATELY LOCATED RADIO-TECHNICAL
AND OTHER SPECIAL SUBUNITS
251. The organization of the protection and defense of objects, combat and other equipment and military property of separately located radio-technical and other special subunits is assigned to the commanders of the subunits and is carried out by patrols detailed from those subunits, armed with standard-issue weapons.
Patrols are part of the daily detail of the subunits, are subordinate to the commander, the starshina and the duty officer for the subunit, and perform duty as sentries in accordance with instructions approved by the commander of the military unit.
252. Instructions for the duty officer for the subunit and for the patrols are drawn up by the subunit commander taking into account the nature of the object and local conditions.
The instructions set out the duties of the duty officer for the subunit and of the patrols for the protection and defense of objects; they determine the time and procedure for patrolling, the number of patrols, the special duties of patrols on individual sections of the routes, the procedure for their actions in the event of an attack on the guarded objects, in the event of fire, natural disaster, or on combat alert signals; they indicate in which cases patrols are permitted to use weapons, the procedure for admitting persons to the guarded objects, to combat and other equipment and military property, as well as to the guarded territory.
Attached to the instructions for the duty officer for the subunit are a patrol movement diagram approved by the subunit commander, a list of persons entitled to open storage facilities or to be admitted to the receipt of combat and other equipment and military property, specimen passes, and impressions of seals (imprints of seals).
253. For the performance of duty by patrols, several schedules are drawn up that preclude uniformity in the patrols' movement over time.
Patrol schedules are approved by the subunit commander and kept in a locked box (cabinet) at the duty officer for the subunit.
The period of validity of each schedule is determined by the subunit commander.
254. Patrols are provided with live cartridges in accordance with Article 107.
The cartridges are kept at the duty officer for the subunit in a separate iron box or a box lined with iron on the outside, under lock. The box with the cartridges is placed in the room for storing the subunit's weapons.
When the patrols are in the subunit, their weapons are kept in a separate rack.
255. The preparation of patrols for the performance of duty is carried out in accordance with Articles 125 - 129.
256. A patrol performs duty by going around the subunit's location along the route indicated in the patrol movement diagram.
Technical means of communication are installed along the patrol routes, by means of which the patrol reports to the duty officer on the progress of patrolling.
During the daytime, patrols may carry out protection by observation from convenient locations or towers equipped with technical means of communication.
257. A patrol is obliged to:
- vigilantly protect and defend the objects, combat equipment and military property of the subunit and not cease performing the assigned task until it is relieved or withdrawn;
- know the signals established for communication with the duty officer and call him upon detecting any malfunction in the fencing of an object and in the event of any kind of violations of order;
- strictly observe the schedule and route of movement established for him;
- while on duty, have his weapon loaded according to the rules specified in Art. 109, and always ready for action (Art. 173).
While on duty, the patrolman is forbidden to be distracted from carrying out the assigned task (to sleep, sit, read, write, eat, drink, sing, smoke, talk with outsiders).
The patrolman must answer questions only from the commander and the starshina of the subunit, the duty officer of the subunit, and persons who have arrived with them for inspection.
258. In the event of an attack on the patrolman or on an object he is guarding, as well as when an outsider approaches the boundary of the guarded object marked by signs, the patrolman acts as specified in Art. 175 - 178.
259. Inspection of the performance of duty by patrolmen is carried out by the commander of the subunit and all his direct superiors, the deputies of the commander of the subunit and persons on his instructions, as well as by the starshina and the duty officer of the subunit.
Persons inspecting the performance of duty by patrolmen are accompanied by the duty officer of the subunit with one patrolman of the free shift.
The results of the inspection, as well as the time of opening and closing of storages (warehouses), are recorded in the book of acceptance and handover of duty.
The duty officer is obliged to check the performance of duty by patrolmen not less than twice a day (of which once at night), being guided in this by the provisions set forth in Art. 247 - 249.
260. The changing of patrolmen is carried out: during the changing of the detail - by the duty officer of the subunit in the presence of the old duty officer of the subunit, in a manner similar to the changing of sentries (Art. 220 - 224); subsequently - independently, in accordance with the schedule, by pass and countersign established by the duty officer of the subunit.
261. When sending out the next patrolman for the performance of duty, the duty officer of the subunit issues him weapons and cartridges in the established manner, instructs him, paying special attention to the procedure for the use of weapons, leads him to the site for loading and unloading weapons and checks the correctness of the loading.
262. Upon returning from the patrol route, the patrolman calls the duty officer of the subunit to the site for loading and unloading weapons, reports to him on the results of the patrol, unloads the weapon under his supervision, after which he hands over to the duty officer the weapon and the cartridges in the magazines (clips). On the acceptance of the weapon and cartridges, the duty officer of the subunit makes an entry in the book of issue of weapons and ammunition.
263. The procedure and place of rest for patrolmen are determined by the commander of the subunit depending on the conditions of accommodation, in a manner similar to Art. 236.

The composition of the troops participating in the parade, the time and place of the parade, the uniform, the routes of movement of the units, the order of their formation and marching past are determined in each individual case by order of the garrison chief. The order also gives instructions on the procedure for conducting the artillery salute, if one is provided for.
293. To command the troops participating in the parade, a parade commander is appointed each time by special instruction.
294. The actions of servicemen, subunits and military units participating in the parade are performed according to the rules set forth in the Drill Regulations of the Armed Forces of the USSR.
295. On approaching the formation site for the parade, the bands following with the troops cease playing. Formations (military units) take their places according to the formation plan. The commanders of formations (military units) and their deputies take their places on the right flanks of their formations (military units) in one rank; two paces to the left of the deputies stand the standard-bearer and the assistants with the Battle Banner of the formation (military unit).
The bands of the military units, under the command of the garrison military conductor, form up into a combined band opposite the person receiving the parade and somewhat closer to the initial position of the troops; the fanfare players are in front of the combined band. The designated drummers take their places in one or several ranks behind the leading subunit.
296. The Battle Banners of formations (military units) awarded orders must be with the orders and order ribbons.
297. Military units (subunits) armed with carbines form up for the parade holding them in the position at the foot, and those armed with submachine guns in the position "on the chest".
The commanders of military units report the arrival and formation of their units to the senior among the commanders of the formations (military units) participating in the parade.
298. To mark the formation sites of the military units, their flanks and the depth of the formation, as well as to mark the line of passage of the troops in solemn march, markers are assigned to the disposal of the garrison military commandant. The markers from each military unit arrive under the command of an officer by special instruction of the garrison military commandant.
The lining up of the markers at the troops' formation site must be completed by the time the troops arrive. After the military units have taken their places for formation, the markers fall into the ranks of their subunits.
299. The troops at the formation site for the parade, until the arrival of the person receiving the parade, salute only military units as they pass in front of the front of the formed-up units and the parade commander.
Servicemen who are out of ranks assume the position "attention" and raise the hand to the headdress when reporting to the parade commander and the person receiving the parade, and also render the military salute to the Battle Banners as the troops pass in solemn march.
Meeting by the troops of the parade commander
and the person receiving the parade
300. To meet the parade commander, the senior among the commanders of the formations (military units) participating in the parade gives the commands: "DRESS", "ATTENTION", "Eyes RIGHT (LEFT, CENTER)" - and reports on the formation of the troops. Having received the report, the parade commander gives the command "AT EASE". When meeting the parade commander, the combined band does not play.
301. To meet the person receiving the parade, the parade commander gives the commands: "DRESS", "ATTENTION", "Eyes RIGHT (LEFT, CENTER)", and if there are military units armed with carbines, "DRESS", "ATTENTION", "For meeting on the right (left, from the front), pre-SENT ARMS".
All commanders, from platoon commander and above, raise the hand to the headdress. The combined band plays the "Counter March".
302. The parade commander, having raised his hand to his headdress, rides up to the person receiving the parade and reports, for example: "Comrade Colonel General. The troops of such-and-such garrison have been formed for the parade in commemoration of such-and-such anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution. Parade commander Lieutenant General Vasilyev".
When the parade commander stops to deliver the report, the combined band ceases playing. Upon completion of the report, the parade commander, without lowering his hand from his headdress, accompanies the person receiving the parade, following on the outer side of the formation and somewhat behind.
303. The person receiving the parade, having received the report, rides around the troops, greets them and congratulates them. The combined orchestra plays the "Counter March", stopping playing during the stops of the person receiving the parade for the greeting and congratulation.
The troops respond to the greeting and congratulation in accordance with the Internal Service Regulations of the Armed Forces of the USSR, with the "hurrah" being pronounced in a drawn-out, rolling manner.
304. When the person receiving the parade returns to the parade reception point after riding around the troops, the troops resume the "hurrah" (in a drawn-out, rolling manner). The combined orchestra plays "Slavsya" or "Long Live Our Power".
305. On the instruction of the person receiving the parade, the parade commander gives the command "AT EASE". The commanders of the military units repeat the command "AT EASE" or command: "To the LEG" and then "AT EASE".
The fanfare players (cornetists and trumpeters) of the combined orchestra play the signal "Listen, everyone".
306. After the signal "Listen, everyone" is played, the person receiving the parade delivers a speech (reads out the order). At the end of the speech (reading of the order), the troops give a threefold "hurrah", the combined orchestra plays the State Anthem of the USSR, and simultaneously an artillery salute is fired (if it is provided for); all commanders from platoon commander and above place their hand to their headgear, and the troops, without a command, assume the position "attention".
At the end of the orchestra's performance of the Anthem, the fanfare players (cornetists and trumpeters) play "Retreat", all commanders from platoon commander and above lower their hand from their headgear, and the troops assume the position "at ease".
Procedure for the passage of troops in a ceremonial march
307. The troops pass in a ceremonial march in the formations and in the sequence specified in the garrison order.
308. For the passage in a ceremonial march, the parade commander gives the commands: "ATTENTION", "For the ceremonial march, by companies (by batteries or by battalions, by divisions), at one linear (two linear) distance, the first company (battalion) straight ahead, the rest to the RIGHT", "On the SHOU-LDER", "Eyes right, by step - MARCH".
The said commands, except for "Attention", are repeated by all commanders of the military units.
309. On the command "For the ceremonial march", the commanders of the subunits leave the formation and take their places in front of the front of their subunits, while the commanders of the military units (formations) and their deputies take their places in front of the commanders of the leading subunits (military units) at the established distances.
The standard-bearers and assistants also come forward and take their places at the established distance.
The designated drummers come forward and take their places 15 - 20 paces in front of the commander of the leading formation (military unit).
The linear markers designated to mark the line of passage of the troops in the ceremonial march take their places at a run (at a marching step) along this line at a distance of 15 - 20 paces from one another.
On the command of the commander of the military unit "On the shoulder", the subunits armed with carbines bring them to the position "on the shoulder" (the position of the submachine guns "on the chest" does not change); the standard-bearers raise the combat standards, insert the lower end of the standard's staff into the socket of the sling and hold the staff with their hands.
310. Having given the commands for the passage in a ceremonial march, the parade commander moves 30 paces in front of the commander of the leading formation (military unit), in front of the drummers. Not reaching one - two linear markers before the person receiving the parade, he places his hand to his headgear and turns his head toward him; having passed the person receiving the parade, he gets out of the vehicle and takes his place to the right and somewhat behind the person receiving the parade.
311. On the command of the parade commander "March", the leading subunit begins to move at a marching step to the beat of the small drums. The remaining subunits reach the place where the leading subunit stood, on the command of their commanders turn left (wheel by the shoulder), dress, take the established distances and, on the command "Straight ahead", follow the subunit going in front.
The right-flank men in the subunits follow along the line marked by the linear markers, one pace from them.
312. When a formation passes in a ceremonial march in front of the middle of the front of the leading subunit of the leading military unit, the commander of the formation follows, behind him at three paces - his deputies (in one rank), at two paces behind the deputies - the standard-bearer with the Combat Standard of the formation and the assistants, at four paces behind the Standard follow the military units (subunits) of the formation, one after another at the established distances.
313. When the leading subunit approaches the person receiving the parade to a distance of four - five linear markers, the combined orchestra begins to play the march; the drummers going at the head of the column stop beating the drums and continue moving in the indicated direction.
314. For the passage in a ceremonial march with carbines "on the arm", the weapon is brought to the position "on the arm" on the command (signal) of their commanders three - four linear markers before the person receiving the parade.
315. During the passage in a ceremonial march, the commanders of formations, military units and subunits, not reaching one - two linear markers before the person receiving the parade, place their hand to their headgear and turn their head toward the person receiving the parade; all those in the formation, except the right-flank men, simultaneously turn their head in the same direction. When the last rank of the passing subunit has passed the person receiving the parade, the commanders lower their hand from their headgear and turn their head straight ahead; all those in the formation simultaneously turn their head straight ahead.
If the subunits passed with carbines in the position "on the arm", then on the command (signal) of their commanders they bring the weapon to the position "on the shoulder".
The standard-bearers and assistants do not turn their head toward the person receiving the parade during the passage in a ceremonial march.
316. The commanders of formations (military units), having passed the person receiving the parade, leave the formation and take their places five paces to the right of the parade commander.
317. The commanders of formations and military units passing in a ceremonial march in vehicles follow in front of their formations and units in automobiles (in tanks with the upper hatches open or in self-propelled artillery mounts, standing in the turret) and two - three linear markers before the person receiving the parade render the military salute, placing their hand to their headgear, with a simultaneous turn of the head toward the person receiving the parade.
The upper hatches of the remaining tanks (self-propelled artillery mounts) must be closed.
Servicemen in the cabs of automobiles (tractors) do not render the military salute during the passage in a ceremonial march.
Servicemen in the open bodies of vehicles render the military salute by turning their head two - three linear markers before the person receiving the parade.
318. Each formation (military unit), after passing the reviewing officer, continues in the same formation to the designated place, from where, after the necessary re-formation, it proceeds to its place of quartering.
319. When the last military unit passes the reviewing officer, the combined orchestra stops playing, turns right and proceeds to its initial position, from where it marches past in a ceremonial march, playing a march as it goes.
320. Parades in Moscow and Leningrad are conducted in accordance with special directions (instructions) as applied to what is set forth in this chapter.
