The Socialist International is an international political organization created in 1951. Today its members are 135 social-democratic, socialist and workers' parties of North and South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe. Many member parties of the Socialist International are part of governments or represent the main opposition forces. Since the second half of the 20th century, the Socialist International has been an influential international organization. But recently the Socialist International has lost its influence because the leading European member parties (the Social Democrats of Germany and Sweden, the Socialists of France and Spain, the Labourites of Great Britain, and others) have reduced their participation in the Socialist International. Keywords: political parties, socialists, social democrats, international political organizations.
